Dance Title:
AmélieMusic: Yann Tiersen- La Valse D'Amelie
This piece comprised of ballet and modern movements. I choreographed this dance piece to the music of the French movie
Amélie. I enjoyed the movie's surreal reality and I took some inspiration from that to incorporate into my choreography.
You cannot tell from the video, but the dancers had red cheeks to make the dancers seem doll-like. I wanted to achieve a mix of princess ballet in a darker setting.
There were many people in the end that wanted to dance Amelie after I showed a preview earlier in the spring 2008 semester. I originally had nine dancers in mind. Therefore, it was quite a challenge to adapt the piece and overhaul some of my original plans. In the end, it worked out very well and this was my first piece I choreographed for Eclectics. I learned a great deal from this process and I was very pleased with the final product as well.
The other piece I choreographed (I unfortunately do not have a video) was a Chinese modern dance. I used music from the Chinese composer Tan Dun. We used this as an audition piece for the fall 2008 Culture Show. I was also pleased with the dance we performed and I thought it has very unique elements of modern dance, storytelling and very subtle Chinese inspired martial arts movements.
Title: Rock
Choreographed by: Shanna Sprinkle
I was a performer in Shanna's "Rock" piece. This piece was inspired by Paul Taylor's choreography.
Title: Bleeding Love
Choreographed by: Shanna Sprinkle
This was a modern piece. The music is by Leona Lewis. Shanna's aim for this dance was for us to convey a lot of emotion.

Title: Carmen
Choreographed by: Gwen Melnyk
I am the one in the pink skirt. This dance was a fusion of ballet and hip hop.

Title: Requiem
Choreographed by: Shanna Sprinkle
Eclectics first performed this piece in our first Spring Showcase in 2007. It was a very dark and brooding dance.
